Evette-Schaeffer Alto Sax Made in France Serial Number 14302; circa 1967 This horn was made by Malerne as evidenced by the: LH pinky table, low C spatula and 'tulip.
Good Morning, I am trying to get at least an idea of exactly what Clarinet my son has, as we are preparing to sell it(he has switched to trombone).and I want both a fair price and to list at a fair price to potential buyers. It has the black pouchette/royal blue lining case. One the bell end, it is stamped EVETTE in an oval, below it, Buffet Crampon, that emblem is stamped on two other pieces. It is also stamped made in France and lists the number: E113539. I am confused by the German/France production issue. I can trace the origin of this instrument back through a family friend to about the early 1970's.
It is in excellent condition, has been regularly maintained, corks, valve and pads all in good shape. Could someone advise on general information, year of origin, possible value? I would so appreciate it. The Buffet Evette is an 'intermediate' level clarinet. Similar to the E11.
I am assuming that it is a wood clarinet that you have. Serial numbers for the intermediate line are not available on the Buffet web site. You may want to check out clarinetperfection to see if Steve has a list of E11 numbers there. The value of these instruments isn't quite as high as the Buffet Evette Master Model which is an R13 clone. In good playing condition, with little key wear, and no damage to the wood it should be worth in the ball park of $400.
Another way to determine 'value' is to check completed sales on ebay. Those are a good indicator of what these are selling for. Thank you both for your information. I am still confused. I know that this instrument was original in the late 60's or early 1970's as a family friend used it new in school back then.
It was gifted to my son a few years ago when he began taking clarinet. There are contradicting markings on this instrument from what I can tell, it is clearly marked Made in France, the serial number is E113539 and it also has a N4 on the mouthpiece. I can assume it was not made in Germany, as from what I have been able to gather research wise, they were still made in France during this era. I just want to make sure it is not some rare instrument that has been overlooked by uninformed folks(such as myself, guitar player).it has a wonderful mellow tone. I assume that because it is stamped FRANCE that it was made in France. I don't know everything there is to know about Buffets, although I've owned several over the years and my gigging clarinet is a Buffet.
But it wouldn't surprise me that over the years Buffet (as well as many others) kept changing their business model, number of variations, and locations where they had them built (either under contract or by themselves). I recall that EVETTE was a designation Buffet used to mark their lower-line instruments (e.g., EVETTE-SCHAFFER, although I may have misspelled it). I seriously doubt that your clarinet has THAT much value, albeit it may play very nicely.
You may get a better idea about value by perusing eBay and checking the pricing on the really hi-end used models of Buffet and Selmer and Leblanc and Yamaha. Also look at the known intermediates. Also, look at what the internet discounters are charging for hi-end and intermediate models. Take the prices for the known entities and subtract from there. I have just come upon a bit of information that seems relevant.
The clarinet was likey made in 1970 by Malerne for Evette/Buffet Crampon and the 'unmatching' or uncorresponding serial number, listed as E113539 does indicated that it is likely a professional level, rather than student level instrument. LIkely for me valuable information as it would increase the resale value of the instrument.am looking to fetch perhaps $300 for it, as it is in excellent condition..and will turn that into my son's newly earned marching band letter jacket.goodness those things have gotten expensive since I earned mine.but all for a good cause.thanks for all the information, lead me in the right direction reserach wise. Mine says Evette & Schaeffer Paris France on the mouth piece, but two of the other pieces just say Evette by Buffet and one piece don't say anything. The serial # is E104,889 and the case is black with the blue linen and says Evette. The mouth piece seems to be in better shape them the others. I was told that all the pieces should have matching numbers but I only find the number in one of the pieces.
Is it yours like that also? If you have any answer, I would really like to know more about it.
Hi all, as some will know I have recently started playing an keilwerth Alto which I have had buried for several years. I have however always fancied a tenor (long story). I have just been offered an Evette Buffet Crampon Tenor, which is s/h. The person selling it is desperate for money, and the owner of the shop who is selling it on her behalf is reasonably well known to me.
The price is £190. It appears (and sounds) to be in good condition (it's a few years old and has a few scratches, but nothing of sigificance). Do you think it's worth getting at that price? Are they reasonable horns?
- it doesn't have to be Pro quality just reasonably good enough to produce good sound (haha, not with me playing it!). The lady who owns the shop and is herself a sax player, reckons it's actually worth closer to £300, but the owner is desperate for a quick sell. Any thoughts very welcome Regards woody.
