Rajendra Shrestha, Associate Professor, attended a Workshop on Land cover and land use change (LULUC) dynamics in south and Southeast Asia in Kathmandu /Nepal organized in ICIMOD from 2-5 November, 2014. 29 participants from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University, Yale University, University of Central Missouri, Auburn University, University of Oklahoma, USGS, and NCAR of USA, Ministry of Forest of Bangladesh, Department of Forests and Park Services of Bhutan, DFRS and FRA of Nepal, CAS of China, University of Hyderabad of India attended the workshop.
The purpose of the workshop was to provide forum to bring scientists together to discuss land cover land use change (LCLUC) and its drivers with an emphasis on South and Southeast Asia. It was a joint effort of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) funded by NASA. The funding is about collating the data requirement and drivers of land use / cover change at the regional level. Currently, two publications are being planned.
