As this is the Florida version of the Department of Motor Vehicles of any state, I found it interesting that there are multiple offices of the venue in Jacksonville under the unlikely name of the Tax Collector's Office.

Not an inspiring name to former resident of New York, such as myself, where taxes seem overtly ominous in supporting a greedy and inept state level government, but this is a quick stop for DMV things like plates and driver's licenses. I was told to expect huge lines and the best thing to do was visit another county or make an appointment to convert my NY State Driver's license to Florida's version. Well, I decided to visit the Mandarin Tax Collector's Office, which is a few blocks North of Whole Foods on San Jose Blvd and found not only was it nearly empty at 3pm on Tuesday, but they took me almost right away. Within 30 minutes, I had a brand new FL license in my wallet for $54. The key to my success was having all of the required paperwork and identifications ready for inspection.

The FL DMV website was helpful in outlining what was needed and the US Passport was the Ace of Spades in this case. The only thing that gave me a twinge was the application for the Board of Elections to register my political voting preference, which this office can do at the same time as your license.

The friendly clerk asked me what was my voting preference out loud and I responded with a lower key tone.' The whole place seemingly went silent for a moment. Five minutes later, I was complete in my application and out the door. That was the easiest DMV visit of any state I have lived in (NY, LA, NC, FL) and having the paperwork ready made the difference to them too.

While I dreaded coming here it was a much needed stop I had to make. I've prolonged getting my license switched over because well who really wants to spend their time at any Tax DMV office??

Upon arriving of course the building was packed but the first woman I spoke with, Tammy, was really courteous and gave me a realistic time of how long I would actually be waiting. She was also very helpful in making sure that all the documents I had would suffice for me to get my drivers license. So now comes the wait of 1 hour 30 minutes and it's now my turn. Getting seated to continue with my transaction the woman didn't look up or even say hello or ask how I was doing. She just immediately asked, 'What do you need?'

I just blew that off and took it as she's just trying to help get me outta here ASAP. The woman was very short and unpleasant as if she didn't want to be at work the entire time. I can honestly say the only time she made conversation was when she asked about information for voter registration purposes. I'm just glad I finally can mark this off my check list. Just a little while back I had to visit the Tax collectors office. We had just moved and I needed to change address and registration and update drivers license. I had no appointment so I got there about 7:30 a.m.

Bluecop-xbmc-repo Download on this page. Was third in line. They opened right on the dot. In a matter of minutes was all done and out with a smile. Then I had to go a second time, but this time went later, Yes a wait, But a big but, the office is most pleasant was very comfortable, had T.V.

To watch, super clean. I am a elder and when I was called to the window and completed my business, I mentioned I was feeling a bit dizzy, and the man behind the desk told me to take a seat next and close to his window, I did that and he kept a eye on me till I was feeling better and went home. I do not think we can do better then that!! Not exactly a place that people would check reviews on, but based on the experiences I've had with the DMV or MVA or whatever they're called depending on what State you're in, this one is not bad. The clerks have always been helpful and courteous even when they didn't know what they were doing and had to check with a superior. It's clean and there is plenty of seating and even some vending machines. What gets me is that there are over 100 different license plates to choose from if you want to shell out a few extra bucks for the cause.

At least the AC works well! If I could give zero star, this place would def have that rating. I have been here for nearly two hours to correct an error committed by the tax collector downtown. My drivers license was issued with my Maiden name instead of my married name. I provided the agent/supervisor at the downtown office with my marriage license. I came to this location to get it corrected.

Of course they are claiming that because the first clerk didn't Scan my marriage certificate, that they cannot proof that I hand it in the first time. Why wouldn't I??? My NY license that they kept had my married name. I handed my NY license, social security card ( both with my married name ) and my passport ( maiden name ), along with my marriage certificate.

Why didn't I noticed? Because my maiden and married names are very similar. I was anxious to get out after a long wait. And mostly, as anal as they are about documents, you will think it would be processed correctly.

I have been waiting here for 2 hours. Need to pay again to fix their error.

I cannot find the direct phone number to the downtown office. You have to call the hotline 'call center '. Then they will transfer you to the branch. The wait line for the hotline was 7 minutes. Then, the manager on the phone couldn't help me because she had a customer in person.

Put me on hold and we got disconnected. The people working at this branch is very helpful and has a great attitude!

The wait is very long so make sure you bring a book or something to keep you entertained while you are waiting. It took about an hour and a half for me to get to the counter. A gentlemen name Ed took care of me and he made sure I had everything I needed to get my motorcycle in my name the same day.

He was a pretty popular guy since he was approached by his employees many times during our interaction he still made sure I was at the focus of his attention. Although there's another branch way closer to my house I'm going to start using this one from now on!
