Support for GameCube Controllers I do not know if it has already been thought of, but I would love if the BootMii menu would support Gamecube controllers. I play most of my games and run most homebrew with Gamecube controllers, since I don't like having to change batteries in my Wiimotes all the time, and I hate having to use Wiimotes to start my Wii. -- 20:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC) The gist of it is BootMii takes control at the first possible opportunity, giving you (among other things) maximum brick protection. The only way you could be bricked, AFAIK, is a deliberate attempt or hardware failure, as it doesn't rely on anything stored in NAND. Preloader and other homebrew apps start a lot further into the boot process, so they offer less protection.

BootMii may also need editing in order to allow it to boot into a modified version of boot2, which also would need its nand driver replacing, to load the system menu, and the initial IOS directly from SD. They call it nand emulation, but i don't believe booting into said nand will be possible. More or less it will launch from the program, allowing you to boot into whatever sys menu nand version you have.

Maybe you can extract the executable from the HBC with wadunpacker and run it from the BootMii menu. One of the.app files should be the boot.dol/elf.

I updated the homebrew channel, installed DVDX and hackmii as an IOS. Everything runs great, but now I can't seem to get the hackmii installer that I downloaded from the BootMii website working at all. I wish to uninstall bootmii as an IOS and reinstall it as boot2 but I can't even get the installer to work correctly. I tried renaming the file to boot.elf and boot.dol and neither showed up on the homebrew channel menu.

I had previously reformatted the system, and was simply experimenting with it. There's only one slight problem: when I try to use the e-mail function from the Wii Message Board, I can't send or receive any messages, even the ones I send to myself from my e-mail as tests. It was mentioned that the backup tool takes a few 'shortcuts'.

I want to change to boot2 how do I unsintall bootmii in IOS so I can install it in boot2 so I can restore it in case my wii completely brick and I cannot get into the HBC. I'm not sure if that's necessary or just something that nobody's fixed yet. It's on a really early stage of the Wii startup and that's why they cant recognize the wiimote. Meanwhile you can use START/RESET/POWER or plug a gamecube controller.

Please help someone. -- 18:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC) Problem with black screen at boot My 'specs': System Menu 4.0 Homebrew Channel 1.02 DVDx installed No previous install of bootmii 2: 1 GB Transcend SD-cards (micro SD with SD-adapter) What I do I boot my Wii and enter the Homebrew Channel with my SD card inserted (with only installer.elf on it (/root)). Homebrew Channel asks me if I want to update to 1.03. I click no and. Nothing happens.

I restart and this time I select Yes. After updating the hackmii installer automatically starts. It checks if everything's installable and everything seems to be. I try to install bootMii as boot2.

It tells me to insert an SD-card so I insert my second card that I'll use to start bootmii. It prepares the card, then installs botmii and a big green SUCCESS! Message appears. What happens When I start my Wii without the SD card in, it loads just as usual and boots the System Menu. So far, so good.

I think it would be a good idea to implement support for platter-based hard drives because they do not suffer the wrath of writing to flash memory. The backup feature, while very convienient, can wreck an SD card very quickly because of the large amount of writing done to the card. So I don't think that's what killed your SD card. But I don't think we'll see and USB action in BootMii soon, as that will require an USB stack, which it lacks right now. I got a stupid noob question. From what i understand bootmii will load something from the SD Card. If it doesn't find that, then it just loads the 'normal' wii stuff? So the If i don't got anything for it to boot from SD the Wii will act the same as before? Well, bootmii will only load the bootmii application off of the sd card, not other homebrew applications.

So if you have no sd card in your wii during boot, or deleted the bootmii folder from root of sd, it will boot just like it always did. However this does depend on how you installed bootmii, the above stated is true if installed as boot2, but if installed as ios. It will not auto load, you will have to launch it from hbc. You can only install as boot2 on wii's with serials lu5 and down.

If you can install as boot2 it works great for backing up the nand, then if you messed up your wii, restore. BAM, good as new. Any more questions feel free to ask, only one way too learn?-- 17:47, 16 August 2009 (UTC) Sorry i forgot to sign here.

I already got something in boot 2 (preloader 0.29), so i probably can only install it in Homebrew Channel (wich i can boot directly without the System Menu). Is it safe enough for restoring the NAND if i start it from the Homebrew Channel? I can also Install a File (in my case it was us***ader (dont know if thats allowed to talk about here. But i think you get what it is) wich i can also boot directly from the preloader (like homebrew Channel or System Menu). If i could just install/run Bootmii from there instead of us***ader that would be great. Because i actually really love the preloader and it would give me the oportunity to just 'install' bootmii when i need it (if i messed up), and then again run like HC, System Menu or that other channel.

And if i was you i would install bootmii in boot2, possible get rid of preloader. However you can have both if you like. If you were to brick your wii, and had only preloader. Theres a fair chance you would be bricked for good.

And yes, it is safe enough to use bootmii to restore nand through hbc, however, if you bricked, it would do you NO good at all as ios installation. With bootmii as boot2 it will pop up right after you press the power button, you can then go to sysmenu, hbc, or preform nand backup/restore. And if you update with preloader installed. It could result in a brick. So even if you Really Really love preloader, and cant get rid of it. I would install bootmii as boot2(If Possable).

Make a nand backup. And leave that sd card somewhere safe/or put the backup and bootmii files safely on your computer of something. NO Talk about that is not allowed here, and wii get you banned, even if semi censored. As for booting homebrew apps from preloader, i don't beleave so.

Not sure though. And this is not an option of bootmii. Some people make modified channels for loading hb apps. However those are illegally modified Nintendo wads so NO discussion of them here. You cannot restore a dump straight from another Wii, because that dump has the other Wii's keys and therefore wont work on your Wii. There seems to be a new type of protection in the new released disc of New Super Mario Bros that would verify an area of memory and match it with known data. Not sure I understood all the details but my question is: does this protection detect an installation of home brew channel, bootmi or divx? Cheers 11:06, 23 November 2009 (UTC) They are checking for the presence (and possibly contents) of the on the NSMB game disc. (The BCA and the scrambled sector order are the two things that separate legitimate Wii Game Discs from pirated copies.

The BCA check is usually only done by the drive itself; that check is what drivechips disable. Tmbinc wrote.) Burned copies of the game won't have the correct data there, and when the game detects this, it will randomly freeze.

Not Loading when I boot the Wii. I installed it as a IOS and it dosent show up.

Boot2 install, and can it unbrick the wii? Unable to start HBC When I start the Wii it works fine, brings me to the menu that gives the options for Wii dashboard, HBC and settings. I can get into the Wii dashboard and the settings fine, but when i hit HBC it will go to a black screen than to a static screen with no sound and is frozen. Go write your own dol with mini and let it boot a different title when starting ios lol -- 20:49, 27 December 2009 (UTC) Alternatively, and slightly more straight-forward, you could make a NAND dump, use ShowMiiWads to open the NAND dump, then find HBC and edit the Title ID to something else, whatever you like.

Then find the channel you want to boot instead, and change its title ID to JODI. Then you need to extract both of these channels from your NAND dump as WADs. Use a WAD installer (not wadImport, you have to use one unsupported here) to install both WADs. You will then have HBC with a different title ID, and the other channel will be booted by BootMii. One downside to this is preloader/priiloader won't be able to launch HBC, and also, everytime you run HBC, it will show the scam warning screen due to the fact it was a WAD install. -- 21:49, 27 December 2009 (UTC) I'm having some trouble figuring out ShowMiiWads.

I made a NAND dump with RealWnD (bootmii is unsupported, tried YAWND and WiiND but they wouldn't dump the full NAND) and the dump is in the folder I have SMW set to look at, but nothing shows up. I also have the ShowMiiNand option checked, but it hasn't showed up with either option. I extracted it with a NAND extractor, and pointed ShowMiiNand at the folder and it worked. I have HBC installed as IDOJ and the other channel as JODI and BootMii loads straight to it. The only thing, which is really just for looks, would be if I could edit the icon in BootMii so it would match the channel. And my HBC is upside down, which I'm guessing happened because I installed the WAD with the wrong IOS. 04:20, 31 December 2009 (UTC) You cannot change the icon in BootMii without rewriting the whole of BootMii as its not open source. Upside down HBC is caused by haveing it running on a patched IOS. Check which IOS it is using by pressing Home button in HBC and it'll be in top right (or bottom left as its upside down) corner.

This article says somewhere: 'Wii Menu 4.2 Fixes the bug found in boot1 on older wiis and completely removes it if it is installed if you update from a previous version'. As far as i know (i may be wrong!) the boot1 has an SHA signature burnt on some unmodifiable registers, so even being Nintendo (thus knowing all the private encryption keys) any modificaton in boot1 would lead to a completely bricked Wii. So, even if updating an older-than-late-2008 console, the boot1 bug would still be present and therefore it's possible to install bootmii into a 4.2-updated old console. The value of ECC Private Key bytes number in the 'Console Keys and keys.bin' section maybe is wrong. Since it must be a factor of 4 maybe is 28 and not 30. The ECC keys are 224-bits long (a common key-length for ECC); 224/8=28.

I hope this helps some people who want to use BootMii, but do not have a Classic Controller. Probably DDR Dance Pad can be used also (but with different buttons).
