On the dots or on the lines. The crank has 2 lines, a yellow and white and the cam gears ahve 2 marks a dot and dash. Depending on what line you use, you need to align it with different parts of the cam gear. Ok, not sure if in right place to post but if not then mod please move to right section. Did a 1j vvti into my supra mk3 and it seems to have hard problem starting so im guessing timing is off. Can anyone help or explain to me how to set timing correct on these motor such as the cam gear and etc? I have a fluidampr crank pulley and hks exhaust cam gear if that make any difference.

I have the fluidampr crank pulley so its tdc is the 5th line counting from the left. Also, when i set my timing, on the vvti gear, i set it like this: i turn the vvti gear all the way counter clockwise to where it stops then i turn the whole cam gear back to mark the line on the cam gear to the back plate marking.
